Designed by Alvar Aalto, the A110 has been nicknamed the Hand Grenade for its distinctive shape. Aalto originally designed this pendant light for the Finnish Engineers’ Association building (Insinööritalo) in Helsinki. Typically for Aalto lighting designs, its simple and restrained design makes the lamp a great fit for nearly any space.
The A110 sheds warm, natural light with a balance of direct and indirect light and a fascinating interplay of light and shadow falling in different directions. The glare-reducing perforated brass ring at the bottom of the pendant is one of many design solutions Aalto has employed to achieve the softest, most indirect light possible. This luminaire is equally well suited for use on its own or in larger compositions.
The shade is white painted steel, with a white painted ring at the bottom. The length of the white plastic cable is 2.5 m.
Beginning this October, Artek is offering pendant or wall light buyers a Light Tasting gift package that includes three different bulbs for different lighting scenarios. The package’s E27 bulbs are dimmable. The warm, atmospheric bulb in the Light Tasting gift package is great for reading or lighting an intimate kitchen table. The warm and bright light, on the other hand, is ideal for lighting a large dining room table, while cool and strong light is recommended for hallway or workspace lighting.
