Alvar Aalto designed Armchair 42 for the Paimio sanatorium in 1932. The chair has accordingly been dubbed the “Little Paimio”.
The frame of the armchair is of lacquered form-bent birch. The seat and backrest are shaped from a single piece of form-pressed birch plywood. There is not a single straight line in the seat. The graceful armchair is also comfortable and soft to sit on. Because wood is a living material, the armrests of the chair are shaped from a single split piece so that Little Paimio will keep its shape through the ages.
The frame of the armchair is of lacquered form-bent birch. The seat and backrest are made of form-bent birch plywood painted white.
Seat height 36 cm.
