The Arco floor lamp by Flos is a classic from 1962. The floor light was created when Italian designer brothers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni wanted a floor lamp that would also provide lighting over the table. They did not want people to have to step around the lamp, however, so the brothers designed it with an arched stem more than two metres long.
Every part of this floor lamp is both beautiful and practical. The shade can be adjusted to exactly the right height on its steel arm, and the dome-shaped shade directs the light precisely where needed.
The corners of the massive Carrara marble base are rounded, not because it looks nice, but so that no one will stub their toes on the edges. Even the hole in the marble base is not just there for the aesthetics: it makes the heavy base easier to move.
