Artek Armchair 401 Birch / Polo Fabric Black and White

Armchair 401 by Artek is an enduring Aalto classic designed for maximum comfort. Alvar Aalto designed the chair for Artek in 1933, when it was also purchased for the recreational areas of the Paimio sanatorium, where the small wings of the headrest provided a bit of privacy.

The high-backed Armchair 401 is the perfect reading chair with a slightly tilted backrest that supports the head and neck. The sprung seat cushion puts the final touches on your seating comfort.

Both armrests are cut from the same piece of form-bent birch lamella, ensuring an even warping over time. The seat and backrest are made of solid birch and birch plywood. The chair is upholstered in black-and-white striped Polo fabric.
