Eames Lounge Chair was born out of a desire to create a new classic. "Why don't we make an updated version of the old English club chair?" thought Charles Eames, and so began years of design work. The goal was to create a chair that combines ultimate comfort, the highest quality materials and first-class craftsmanship. The result was a light, elegant and modern lounge chair that is also very comfortable to sit on.
In addition to its original version, the chair is available in a new, larger model. Vitra developed the larger New Dimension version in close collaboration with the Eames Office so that taller people could also enjoy the exceptional comfort of the Eames Lounge Chair. The New Dimension version has a 5 cm higher backrest and a 4 cm deeper seat, compared to the original version.
Vitra has been making the chair with the same production methods since the 1950s. New, carefully considered materials have been added to the collection in close cooperation with the Eames Office.
The comfortable Eames Lounge Ottoman complements the comfort of the iconic Eames Lounge Chair. Nothing beats putting your legs up on the voluminous ottoman, but it also serves conveniently as an extra seat.
The set includes both the armchair and the footstool. Both pieces of furniture are upholstered in Premium F leather with olive leaf tanning. Extracted from the leaves of olive trees in the Mediterranean region, the tanning agent is purely plant-based and environmentally friendly. The extract used for tanning is made with the minimum of chemicals from leaves collected as a by-product of the olive harvest.
The Eames Lounge chair and footstool have a light walnut frame and a polished aluminium base. The chair is made with the larger New Dimension dimension.
